About Artist

Gokte Tunc, an artist who has been using "industrial wastes" as a medium in performing her art. Continuing with her performance of utilising industrial 'left-overs', Gokte Tunc has added a new material, the mirror surface, to her works. The notion of 'circle' in both the physical and metaphysical context symbolises the eternal turn and endless energy. It signifies the change, the evolution, the order and chaos, conducting us to think about it while urging our apprehension of these illusions in form and colour in every different direction, questioning the reality.

The three dimensional objects generate optical illusions by means of their assemblage and the material used, incorporating the viewers vision in the playful relationship of their simple geometric forms; and they stand open to a wide spectrum of connotations ranging from universal knowledge to personal memory.

Her works- successful in steering, even creating a perception by virtue of the visual and beyond-visual depth established between the plain and the complicated- is above and beyond consisting of single aesthetical objects, and the exposition presents us with the opportunity of an holistic experimentation in between two universes mastered by metaphysics and hi-tech.

Her works are in many collections in Turkey and in Europe.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Humankind perpetually has an urge to explore his whereabouts and while trying to find out the meaning of his existence, pursues the unknown. The perfect design of the universe has always been a guide to me. We all exist within a huge infinite mechanism, a system. Just like cogs in a wheel connected to each other, we are part of this continual, coefficient system. The main pieces of my current works are circular forms and mirrors. I try to convey the symmetries of the forms I create by means of reflections of plane and convex mirrors, to different dimensions. These symmetries remaining on the same surface and switching to different dimensions, multiply themselves recurrently and transform into complicated geometric forms. The viewer on the other hand, with his reflections, is included in each one of these surfaces. These illusions that emerge, refer to the invariable existence of other information and realities apart from those we have known to be real so far. There is always an “OTHER”. Could we be the other side of one particular reality?

Mostly produced from waste industrial materials, with a color tranquility creating almost a monochromatic effect, after previous works - evocative of three dimensional town plans, or sometimes sections- new works of Gökte Tunç exhibited at Gallery G-Art display once more the effects of spatiality. The three dimensional objects generate optical illusions by means of their assemblage and the material used, incorporating the viewers vision in the playful relationship of their simple geometric forms; and they stand open to a wide spectrum of connotations ranging from universal knowledge to personal memory. Togetherness of diverse objects, using the same language, leaves the viewer amidst of an order -or chaos- established in a planet other than the Earth. In fact “transparent eyes” creating the illusion of an embedded viewfinder, draw the line of an uncanny space and cause the viewer to feel himself under surveillance.
