About Artist

For Kamil Fırat one of the most elite of the Turkish art of Photography, the way to identify, conceive, see and understand the world and to say something about it, is by means of photography. The Artist, whose art as photographs and prints take place in numerous international museums and private collections, overlooks the times we live in from a metaphoric perspective, with his series.

He has been working on photography and art theories since 1980. He teaches Art Theories, Aesthetics, Visual Communication, Photography Phenomenology and Documentary Photography at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He opened exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. His works are in numerous museums and private collections. He is one of the founders of Adatepe Taş Mektep (Çanakkale). He is the curator of Bursa International Photography Festival from 2015.

The Stone Faces appear as ‘the touch’ between a form that belongs to the human body and the line, which is a cultural product brought out by human beings. These ‘touches’ come to life in ’tangents’. By the weight of each form it meets, the line stretches and transfers itself into the representation of limitation from that of infinity. From now on, each line that is defined has become a linguistic indicator. It is about ‘the tangent’ between the meaning that is attributed to the Stone Faces on the streets, and the line that is transformed into a linguistic indicator. The streets turn their backs to political discourse, and in the face of that discourse, they may transform their backs into a mask. The reckoning with what is up-to-date may be hidden in the representations of the Stone Faces.
